Esther Maria Bjørneboe (b. 1971, Oslo) is a Norwegian artist based in Oslo. She received her education at the Rogaland School of Art and the National College of Art and Design in Oslo, completing a Master’s degree at the Department of Colour in 1996.
Bjørneboe has been awarded the Norwegian Government Grant for Artists and has exhibited extensively in Norway. Her works are represented in numerous private and public collections, including KODE Art Museums, KORO (Public Art Norway), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oslo Municipality, Norges Bank, and the Office of the Prime Minister. She has also been commissioned to create site-specific works for a range of public institutions.
Throughout her career, Bjørneboe has explored the complexities of abstraction, with a particular focus on the interaction between color, form, and spatial relationships. Her practice is informed by modernist traditions, drawing upon the spiritual abstraction of artists such as Hilma af Klint, as well as the geometric rigor of Piet Mondrian.
Her work often investigates how shifts in format and composition influence the emotional and perceptual impact of color, exemplified by large-scale projects such as Displacements (2019), a 10 x 10 meter installation at the Airport Express Terminal in Oslo.
In addition to her artistic practice, Bjørneboe has contributed as a courtroom sketch artist for national media outlets including NRK Dagsrevyen and Morgenbladet.
